My name is Matt Keys I’m 24 and live on the beautiful island of Guernsey in the Channel Islands. It’s fair to say that over here we’re spoilt for choice when it comes to taking pictures of our stunning and rugged landscape. This self-taught hobby has been a passion of mine since I first got my hands on a DSLR, which was almost five years ago now, and it's something which I have never looked back on.
The freedom that a ‘proper camera’ gives you open’s your eyes and mind to a different world of photography that a compact or a phone simply doesn’t allow. There’s nothing I love more than to travel and capture new places, especially France and Spain.
When it comes to taking my photos my technique is about keeping it as natural yet vivid as possible with minimal editing afterwards. As you’ll notice straight away from this site I love taking pictures of the sea and mountains but as an animal lover a large part of my gallery will be for the wildlife photos. I’m especially proud of the Bushy Park photos as the wild deer let me get in very close for some wonderful shots of them in their natural habitat.
My equipment list is surprisingly simple given this is normally a very expensive hobby or career. The camera is a Canon EOS 500d always shot using full manual with several lenses from the stock 18-55 to a Sigma 70-300mm. Not much in the way of filters however I find Hoya to be good value and each lens has a UV attached to it. On particularly sunny days, something we aren’t really blessed with I might use a polarizing filter as the effect is easier than having to replicate in the editing. As for the editing I use the brilliant Adobe Lightroom 5.5 which I would recommend to any photographer. Sometimes I will do a quick touch-up on Photo-Scape if it’s something as simple as a horizon line.
Thank-you for reading and visiting this website, if you have any questions or just want to have a general chat then please leave me a message or email. My aim is to one day sell photos using this site so I’ll keep you guys posted on all new things.
